Casal da Coelheira Red Blend 2019

Casal da Coelheira has some 64 hectares of vineyards located near the Tejo (aka Tagus) River, an area that is subject to flooding. The summers are extremely hot and the winters are cold and wet. All of this benefits the vineyards and the resulting wines.

The grape varieties that were planted here (some 35 years ago) are ones that are best adapted to this climate and the mainly sandy soil, making for healthy vines that produce optimal grapes for authentic, wonderful wines. The unique terroir and climate give the wines (including this red blend) extra fruit concentration and a boost in natural acidity.

Casal da Coelheira’s traditional Portuguese winery in Tramagal, with history preserved in the style and decor of its exterior architecture, has state-of-the-art technology inside, a testament to the winemaker's commitment to excellence and quality.

VARIETIES: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Alicante Bouschet.

ORIGIN: Tejo wine region (Tramagal, Ribatejo), Portugal.

AGING: Partly matured in American oak.

ALCOHOL: 14.5%.

TASTING NOTES: Deep red color. The aroma shows strong dark berries and plum fruit with subtle, well-integrated toasted oak. In the mouth, it shows ripe and elegant tannins, concentrated cherry and berry flavors, spicy highlights, and mocha notes, with a very pleasant, juicy finish.

PAIRING SUGGESTIONS: It’s the perfect partner for tomato-based pasta; pizza; red meat (steak, lamb, pork) with caramelized onions; and mature, strong-tasting hard cheeses.

SERVING TEMPERATURE: 14°C to 18°C (or slightly cooler than room temperature).
